What is the PDX 48 Sketch Tournament?

It is a competition featuring ~10 teams who will have 48 hours to write, rehearse, and perform an original sketch for a live audience.

Will my sketch be recorded?

We will have a videographer on site filming the show.

Are there any prizes for the winning team?

The winning team will receive a trophy, bragging rights, and cash prize for Audience Favorite.

Are there any rules about teams?

Nope. Teams do not need an established run at theaters in Portland. Teams can be made up of 1-3 performers.

I am new to sketch comedy. Should I sign up?

Yes! PDX 48 Sketch is intended to be a great starting point for those interested in sketch writing and the sketch development process.

What is the performer registration deadline for the next show?

Team or solo registration deadline for the 10/26 show is 10/20. Registration link can be found here.

How many people are allowed on a team?

No more than 3 people per team. Solo team performers welcomed and encouraged.

Can performers use props and costumes?

Yes, definitely! Costumes are encouraged. Due to space, only small props are permitted (<2 cu ft; <10 lbs). Our host theaters do not permit glitter, silly string, confetti, etc.

How much is it for a sketch team to register?

To make the show equitable for all sketch groups and performers, registration to participate is free.

Where do production earnings go?

Show earnings are used for prizes, venue costs, and a pool of funds directly invested in producing and filming comedy sketches in Portland, OR.

How long can my sketch be?

Sketches should be no more than 5 pages and 5 minutes long.

How do you prevent cheating?

Teams will have at least 1 representative meet on Friday 10/24 at 7PM and receive elements, suggestions, and guidelines they must incorporate into their sketches. This is to ensure that their show has not been previously written or worked on.

What should I expect at the tech rehearsal?

As a courtesy to performers and to ensure the best sketch performance possible, all teams will have an allotted tech rehearsal prior to the show day of. Teams be allotted 10 minutes to run a tech rehearsal for their sketch.

Can my sketch have lights and sound effects?

Because of the rapid fire pace of tech rehearsal and show, sound and light techs will be unable to provide sound and music (light techs will only provide lights up and lights down to stage).

Will there be information sessions where I can learn more about performing?

Yes, in person info sessions will also be held the following times/days:

Are information sessions mandatory?

Nope. We facilitate information sessions in case performers have questions about the space or process.
